Caerwys News

A (very) brief history of Caerwys. Caerwys is a beautiful town in Flintshire, North Wales. It is situated just under two miles from the A55 North Wales Expressway and one mile from the A541 Mold - Denbigh road. At the 2001 Census, the population of Caerwys civil parish was 1,315, with a total ward population of 2,496.

Caerwys is mentioned in the Domesday Book as a small market town. The well-maintained church is dedicated to St. Michael. It has two parallel naves. The oldest part of the building is a stone tower whose base is said to have been part of a Roman observation tower. A short, informative booklet about the church was written in 1936 and updated in 1995. As well as being surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty and views across mountains and valleys, the centre of Caerwys has been designated a conservation area.

A famous native of Caerwys was actress Myfanwy Talog, who is commemorated by a slate plaque on the cottage where she was born. Talog never forgot her origins, and succeeded in persuading the BBC to bring the Radio One roadshow to Caerwys in the 1980s.

Caerwys and Philadelphia have important historical connections. Local doctor, Thomas Wynne, sailed to America on the ship Welcome in 1682 with William Penn. Wynne was one of the founding fathers of Philadelphia and became the first speaker of the Provisional Assembly, as well as a provincial judge. The original street plan of Philadelphia was designed on the street pattern of Caerwys. Welsh names crop up everywhere, and several buildings built in Philadelphia resemble buildings in the Caerwys area, some of which still stand today.

Caerwys View has been awarded the highest accolade, a David Bellamy Gold Award for the third year running.

Park owners know the importance of ensuring that their parks are well managed, in sympathy with the natural environment.
To recognise those parks making a significant contribution to consevation and the environment David Bellamy has pioneered
“The David Bellamy Conservation Awards” in conjunction with British Holiday and Home Parks Association.
His aim is to let the awards guide people to parks whose owners are creating an environment oasis to increase the vitality to the natural habitat.

The scheme awards park owners who show responsibility for careful environmental management and development with the criteria for assessment encompasing
areas such as park landscaping, habitat creation, recycling and waste management. Caerwys View has been awarded the highest accolade, a GOLD AWARD.

What the owners say

We were looking for a quiet and picturesque site not too far from home for our first static caravan home. Looking through the lots of available sites in the area, We came across this little gem. Debbie the owner showed us around the park. Immediately we knew it was the One for us. The park was lovely. The views of the surrounding countryside was outstanding. The landscaping is well laid out with emphasis on wild life, birds and butter flies. The park is perfectly located, not totally isolated but when you look around at the views and trees you could be a million miles away from every day life. If you are looking for a quiet & peaceful park in beautiful surroundings. you’ve found it!” Me and my wife Julie would like to thank Debbie and her family for a smooth and helpful buying process.
Thanks David and Julie Brownlee.

Just to let you know that we appreciate the great deal you did for us on our new caravan. Your site is wonderful, the view is spectacular and the surrounding area is ideal. We look forward to spending many happy years in North Wales in the future.
Best Regards
